West, a former Gartner Vice President, Research Director & Gartner Emeritus, has joined the team as an Advisor on application development tools and market strategies, including Low Code / No Code (LCNC), DevOps, Portfolio Management and Business Outcome Management and Metrics.

Mike West has an extraordinarily insightful understanding of the applications development and delivery markets, including the newest and most innovative vendors in the LCNC space. He has helped vendors of all sizes to optimize their strategy and execution outcomes and, particularly, positioning and messaging.
Mike West has long been a leader in applications and software engineering from his work on the “developer productivity versus quality” issue to his more recent focus on quantifiable value and business outcomes. In addition to publishing high-value research, Mike West led the development of the IT SCORE assessments for both Applications and Software Engineering Leaders. His groundbreaking work on object technology and components laid the groundwork for the emergence of composable solutions architecture. His early research into artificial intelligence and expert systems as well as client/server 4GLs presaged today’s revolution in development technology injecting low code with generative AI, which he leveraged in his Gartner research.
Outside of Gartner, West joined with other ex-Gartner analysts to found and operate Saugatuck Technology, advising startups to mature and very large vendors, such as IBM and Microsoft. The Saugatuck formula of combining qualitative with quantitative research was later adopted by both Gartner and the Corporate Executive Board, where he managed the Information Risk Executive Council.
In his spare time, Mike West taught graduate seminars on Strategic Technology in the MBA programs at Boston College Graduate School of Management and the University of California (Berkeley) Haas School of Management. He majored in Political Science and Mathematics at Williams College, earned one MA at Johns Hopkins and another at American University, and was awarded the MBA at Boston College.
